Why
101?

Because the day you step into the Limbo internship programme is the first day of the rest of your professional life. It is where school-learning is put on hold for a little while, and where work experience begins.

If we turn to the dictionaries for a second, here’s what 101 means:

101 adjective (one-oh-one)

a topic for beginners in any area. It has all the basic principles and concepts that are expected in a particular field. In American university course numbering systems, the number 101 is often used for an introductory course at a beginner's level in a department's subject area.

But it’s not just about being new at something. 101 also digs deep into the core of what Limbo is about:

The symbolism of the number 101 is romance, exploration, infinite potential, self – determination, teamwork, companionship, relationships, diplomacy, cooperation and achieving common goals. It also indicates being sensitive towards other people.

What is
Limbo
101?

Limbo 101 is our way of making sure that interns aren’t placed in a corner and told to do all the tedious stuff that no-one else feels like doing. It is a structured programme that takes the personal and professional development of each of our interns seriously.

You bring your A-game to us, and we’ll make sure that when you leave, you’ll be a better version of the student that walked through the door on day one.

Throughout your stay, we’ll make sure you hone your skills in whatever it is that you are aspiring to work with. Whether you are passionate about code, design thinking, project management or strategy, we’ll put some extra tools in your tool box.

But we’ll also make sure to teach you the stuff that you can only learn through practical experience:

  1. Scoping a project and balancing the ambitions with the budget and time frame.
  2. Planning the process so that the client feels secure but your colleagues can keep up.
  3. Meeting the client without breaking out in hives and our cold sweats.
  4. Presentation and teaching skills.
  5. Cooperation, collaboration and handover.
  6. Rhythms. Balancing performance and personal needs.

When and for how long your 101 spin is for, really depends on your school. Some places allow for long internships and others don't. We tailor to the length of the individual internship, but we are looking for interns that can be part of our team for at least three months.

Days in 101

Days in 101 are spent getting to know the real world within the office alongside coworkers who boast decades of experience, as well as fellow trainees and interns who, like you, are navigating in the new and slightly frigthning world.

I am Emma, a design intern at Limbo, and i have tried to sum up our daily experiences – a blend of of invaluable lessons, laughter, and friendly competition, whether it's poking fun at colleagues or triumphing over them in foosball.

Check In
Check in at Limbo happens three times a week. What is the agenda for the week, any visitors, trips, birthdays? How are people feeling based on work load and private life?
Work on a project
This is bascily 90% of your internship, which fortunately vary greatly. Certain projects may span the entirety of your internship, while others may last only a few weeks or even a single day. You might collaborate with a team to design a brand identity or independently code a page for a website. Above all, the experience is both challenging and incredibly rewarding.
Throughout all projects, mentors provide support and wise words.
Play foosball
A truly productive day isn't complete without at least one game of foosball. Even if you start off poorly, by the end, you'll likely become a master – an essential skill for your future career, of course.
Yoga
Once a month, we unwind our bodies with a hour of (voluntary) yoga.
Visit a client
When a project is starting to look finished, we embark on a road trip to visit the client and showcase our progress. A day like this usually consists of chatting and getting to know your coworkers in the car and drinking tons of coffee while you listen and learn during the presentation.
Maybe if your are feeling brave and have a role in the project, you're not only listening but also presenting.
Birthday celebration
Birthdays are a significant event at Limbo. Maiken, our well-being angel, prepares a meal desired by the birthday boy or girl, and afterwards, we enjoy a moment of celebration with cake and gifts.
Expand knowledge
The goal of an internship is to learn, but not solely by completing numerous real-world projects. You can also dedicate some of your time to playing around in new programs, such as Principles for designing motion, enhancing your skills in others like Nuxt, or delving into principles of digital design through reading.
Department meet up
A designated time for sharing cool projects, discussing beautiful typefaces, knowledge sharing about tech with your coworkers, and assisting each other with challenging projects.
Coworkes at Limbo eating at social event
Social event
Every now and then, each department host social events. In this case, the Backenders organized a Bomberman tournament followed by an Indian food feast enjoyed together.
